Our History In response to the 1997 suicide of her 23 year old godson, Trish Anderson set out to make a difference in the lives of others who had experienced the death of a loved one. Trish spent the next two years researching grief centers across the nation and studying bereavement in depth. In 1999 Trish organized the first support group at Montgomery College to connect families and individuals mourning the death of a loved one. It was nicknamed JOLT, an acronym meaning Journey To Overcome Loss Together.
TGRC's Beginnings With the combined efforts of Trish, Carolyn Maida, Greg and Becky Mather, The Grief Resource Center (TGRC) was formed in 2002 as a nonprofit organization to serve The Woodlands and surrounding communities. That same year they held their first Facilitator Training Program, began their Children & Teens Program, and expanded to include several adult support groups.
In 2005, TGRC expanded its services to host educational seminars and creative workshops for anyone interested in learning more about bereavement.
TGRC also provides an information and referral service to its community to connect grievers with services beyond its walls. They provide connections with other caring organizations, counselors, and agencies across the nation.
TGRC welcomes you and your family to join our community events, which provide opportunities for families and friends to come together to remember our loved ones. Annually, we commemorate our experience with the "Celebrate A Life Butterfly Release" in May and our "Silent Lights Remembrance Service" in December.
